If you're playing Realistic you might as well play Simulator. Realistic in War Thunder is Arcade without the aiming assistance and enhanced damage. tl dr HEAT is basically launching molten lava that lasts for a milisecond inside the tankĪrcade in War Thunder is a more realistic WoT. If it doesn't hit anything immediately after entry it just dissipates. After it goes through the armour, that's it. HEAT is better for destroying ammo and killing crew (theoretically) as it is a hot jet of copper burning through the armour. If it doesn't hit anything critical (ammo, engine, crewmembers etc) it does pretty much nothing. War Thunder logic: It's much more complicated than that.ĪPCR just punches a small hole, nothing else. WoT logic: Whatever has the best penetration wins! (APCR and HEAT) A HUGE change I would like to see would be the option to queue in realistic-mechanics-only mode or something, a mode that is realism or simulator battles, but does not have historical accuracy (German and Russian tanks fight German and Russian tanks like on Arcade), so that queuing can be improved. Add internal cabin views so that we can have an actual simulator battle mode. Likewise sim-battles become realism battles. Some things Gaijin could do could include adding more tanks (pretty simple), turn the current realism mode into the arcade mode, and scrap the current arcade mode. It needs to become better than World of Tanks, not just because it will make War Thunder great, but it will also be more incentive for Wargaming to make World of Tanks even better. However, World of Tanks also has hundreds and hundreds of tanks to choose from, while the choices currently in War Thunder are limiting (and only because the USSR and Germany are the only nations with tanks ATM), and the variety of tanks surely is a feature. The tanks in War Thunder also feel like tanks, rather than toy models I got from Memoir '44 the board game. APCR and HEAT have huge drawbacks to their advantages, whilst in World of Tanks APCR and HEAT are generally better than AP in almost any situation. Right now, I think World of Tanks has better gameplay, but in War Thunder there is no feeling of being "spammed" by someting. Realism mode just seems like it is what the Arcade mode SHOULD be.Įach game is good in its own respect. Arcade mode is MORE arcady than World of Tanks (sure, no hit points, but you got an aim marker that indicates EXACTLY where your shot will land, not a recticule). I mean, yeah, the realism on War Thunder is fun.assuming you get into a game in the first place. If you attack the cap you tend to be allone against 3-4 others on other team while the rest of your team camps and then when you tell them what needs to be done you get the "STFU noob I killed 5 tanks you killed only one" treatment while the enemy is 3 capping us to another loss.Īt the moment, I feel War Thunder is lagging behind World of Tanks for ground combat. If you sit back and rack up kills you look good on your teams list but you tend to fight away from any meaningful area. I managed to have a respectable 56% win rate over 10.000 games playing solo most of the time in WoT and I carried teams on my own on many ocasions but it's pretty much impossible to carry teams on your own in WT. Previous experience with WoT helps with WT but not a lot. If you can get 3-4 people on a team with some fast medium tanks who know what needs to be done it's easy but when you land on a team where you are the only one going after the objective it becomes frustrating as hell. The problem with that is that most people are simply sitting back and sniping completely ignoring the objectives. Then you get modes where you fight over 3 different flags where objective is to cap and hold and let the enemy victory points bleeed out basically. The downside with simulation is that not many people play it and you have to wait a while for battles. It's still early to judge them but only playable mode right now seems to be simulation because you have to account for shelldrop and not everyone can take out your gun with first shot by putting a projectile straight through your barel from 500 meters away like they can in arcade mode. WT has much better air battles than WoWP but ground combat is way behind WoT.
